This truly unique swim is the first time your child will experience linking together three basic submersions back to back, taking a breath in between each swim whilst moving across the pool.
Why do we do it?
Introduced in our level 3 Swans course, this truly is a unique skill. SBS simulates independent swimming, teaching your child to take a breath between submersions and eventually to lift his or her own head out of the water. It begins to build up the swimming rhythm and breathing pattern that a child will need as he/she progresses through the levels to swimming more independently.
This amazing core skill has 12 different stages to it, all introduced slowly over the course of levels 1 to 14, and it's this skill that will eventually teach your child how to swim independently and achieve their 5 metre badge by level 14/15 on average.
The first stage (introduced in Level 3 Swans) is linking three basic submersions together and the next stages that are introduced slowly throughout the programme, include a variety of concepts. These are designed to challenge your child appropriately as they get older. You can look forward to;
And all of this eventually leads to that amazing moment when your child will swim 5 metres independently lifting their head up to breathe without any help. This happens generally around Level 12 to 14 and the average age is just 3 and a half!! Take a look at one of these exciting moments in action here. 5 Metre Swim
