Hi there, my name is Harry the Hammerhead Shark and I've come along to teach you some of my tricks to help you become an even better swimmer!
Are you ready to glide through the water with our butterfly legs and underwater work? We are going to have lots of fun trying out our butterfly arms too and by the end of the term you may be able to swim as fast as me!
Let me tell you a little bit more …
This term we are going to continue to develop your child"s strokes refining their Front crawl and Breaststroke with the "Near perfect stroke". The most exciting skill this term is the introduction of the "Butterfly “stroke! Now the children are older with more developed shoulders, we are going to have some fun learning "butterfly arms" and "underwater work", which combines their glide, and butterfly legs.
Alongside this, we still have lots of fun to be had with swim medleys, tumble turns, snorkel races and more self-rescue techniques. Have a great term and hope you have fun!
I am called a Hammerhead shark as I have a flat head that is shaped like a hammer, which gives me the best eyesight and vision to catch my dinner! Because my eyes are on the side of my flat head I have a 360-degree view that allows me to see above and below quite easily. I am an excellent swimmer and am known also for my sudden sharp turns so we will have lots of fun with our tumble turns this term!
As well as the ability to make sudden turns, I am also known to be able to twist and bend. Have you heard of "butterfly stroke"? This term we are going to show you how to use your legs and arms to weave through the water and swim fast just like me!
When it comes to food I enjoy eating squid and octopus to name but a few, but my favourtie meal is a Stingray. I like to swim along the Ocean floor, stalking my Stingray and then use my hammer shaped head to pin the Stingray down and gobble it all up.
During the day I like to hang out with all my friends and we all get together in big groups which we call a school, sometimes there is over 100 of us together at a time. But then when night comes, and it's time to find dinner we all split up and go on our solitary way to find food.
My family and me can grow to various sizes. My dad is a Great Hammerhead shark and is 20 feet tall and weighs 600 pounds! Like you we love warm tropical water and can be found all over the world in continental shelves and coastlines. Not many people know I've got quite a big family, and there are actually 10 species of Hammerhead.
Like my friends I am too big to fit in your pool but I will be watching you and hope the tricks I have told your teacher to show you make you feel as strong and fast as me!
Next term, you will be meeting Greta The Great White
